I hope 2008 was a good year for you and your family. 2009 is now in full swing. Read below about the two USA Table Tennis (USATT) tournaments being held in the St. Louis area during the next several months.
SPTTC Receives 100th Membership
It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that the Saint Peters Table Tennis Club (SPTTC) has received the paperwork and payment from our 100th household. SPTTC started out with a simple vision. My wife, Kelly, and I wanted to play more table tennis and we wanted to do it closer to home.
So we set out to start our own table tennis club in March of 2005. We purchased the tables, balls, and recreational rackets. We incorporated in the state of Missouri, filed for sales tax exemption, set up a website, and applied for affiliation with the USATT. We approached the local school district about using their gym for practice. We held a clinic for the elementary kids, a tournament for the middle schoolers and high schoolers, started a competition between high schools, and have held numerous USATT-sanctioned tournaments. We have now made inroads into the collegiate level of competition with the start of Lindenwood University's scholarship program.
With all of this, a hundred different households have stepped forward to lend their financial support toward this vision. Frankly, there are a lot of "basement" or "garage" players that love this sport but they have nowhere to get together and compete against other players. SPTTC was founded on the principle of making sure that everyone was welcome regardless of ability or age. We have players that are 8 and some that are 68. We have beginners all the way up to tournament players.
Cost is not a hindrance. Players under the age of 18 can play annually for $24...that's less than $0.50/week. Singles, 18 and over, can play annually for only $36. The whole family can play annually for just $48. What can you enjoy with your whole family for less than a $1/week?
SPTTC has never raised their membership fees since the club started nearly 4 years ago. Click here to download the SPTTC Membership Application.

Congratulations to Alfred Najem for winning both the 2009 Lindenwood July Open singles and the Giant A round robin. Joey Cochran of South Bend, Indiana took second place honors in both of these divisions only losing to Najem.
This tournament had 79 players representing 14 different states!! With the economy in its current state, it is amazing that the passion for table tennis competition continues to thrive enough to have people willing to travel so far. Missouri had forty-one (41) players...just over half of the competitors. The other thirty-eight (38) players were from out of state.
We want to thank Lindenwood University for hosting this event on their campus. Their facilities are top notch with good lighting, high ceilings, a wood floor, and enough room for 18 Butterfly Centrefold 25 Rollaway tables. Our thanks to Butterfly for donating the white balls for the tournament.

Table Tennis for 2009 Gateway Junior Tennis Players
The 3rd Annual Gateway Table Tennis Tournament was held on Sunday, December 6th, at Lindenwood University. This tournament was established in 2007 when tennis pro, Craig Tidwell, contacted me about having a "fun" table tennis tournament for his junior tennis players. Seventeen junior tennis players signed up for this year's tournament.
The seventeen players were broken up into two large round robin groups. The two best players from each group advanced to single elimination crossover play for trophies. The format was 3-out-of-5 games to 11. Click RESULTS to see all the individual scores.
