Harvester Church of the Nazarene has agreed to allow the club to practice in their carpeted gym while Fairmount Elementary School is closed for the summer.  The church is located at 3115 McClay Road, St. Peters, MO 63376.  It is located just a 1/2 mile east of the Harvester/McClay stoplight on McClay Road.  Tables will be set up on Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:00-9:00pm starting on June 1st and ending on July 14th.

Our thanks to Pastor James Amos (Youth Pastor) who was instrumental in making this happen!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  The club has been temporarily practicing at the Harvester Church of the Nazarene on McClay Road while Fairmount Elementary School has been closed for their summer break.  I'd like to thank Pastor James Amos, Youth Pastor ("Jamos"), for speaking to the church staff on our behalf and allowing us to keep our practice sessions going these past 7 weeks.

Fairmount is starting their new 2006-2007 school year on Thursday, July 20th.  Saint Peters Table Tennis Club will hold its first practice of the new school year that evening (7/20/06) from 6-9pm.  Please come out and join us for a fun night of exercise and competition.

Congratulations to the SPTTC club members who recently participated in the July 22-23 Show-Me State Games in Table Tennis.  A number of players travelled to Jefferson City to represent the club and compete for rating points and medals.  A good time was had by all.

The partnership between the Saint Peters Table Tennis Club (SPTTC) and the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) has been expanded.  Francis Howell Central High School on the Cottleville campus has agreed to allow our club members to practice in their multipurpose room during some of the evenings when we can't play at Fairmount Elementary School.

This agreement was struck when Francis Howell Central High School teacher, Tom Whelan, and Francis Howell High School teacher, Eric West, joined the Saint Peters Table Tennis Club and mentioned their intention to further develop student table tennis clubs at their respective campuses.  SPTTC will be moving some of its tables from Fairmount to Francis Howell Central to accommodate the practice sessions.

More ideas are being discussed on how to increase the student participation in table tennis.  Fundraising ideas are being considered for the future purchase of table tennis equipment needed to promote the sport.

Congratulations to the Francis Howell School District for their support of USA Table Tennis (USATT).

We will be holding another recreational tournament (non-USATT sanctioned) in late October.  It will be a shortened version held for three hours on Friday, October 20th.  SPTTC members get to compete for half-price.  The round robin groups will be determined by ability and compete against each other in best of three games to 11.  Trophies will be awarded for the top 2 finishers in each group.

I hope everyone who participated in the tournament enjoyed the competition.  We ended up having 19 people compete in three round robin groups.  There were 14 SPTTC club members, 3 IBM employees, and 2 local players.

Group 1 was won by Jim Brown.  Jim recently moved back to the St. Louis area from Massachusetts.  He went undefeated throughout the competition by not losing a single game.  However, runner-up Rikki Peyyeti, gave him a run for his money when he took Jim to two deuce games, eventually losing to the champion 10-12, 10-12.

The veteran, Rosemary Davis, captured the Group 2 round robin.  Rosemary recently returned from competing in the 2006 Huntsman World Senior Games in Utah.  She is currently ranked 2nd in the U.S. Over-70 Women.  Up and comer, Jeffrey Schulte, took the honors for 2nd place with his only loss coming from Rosemary.

Larry Nobs took the championship trophy for Group 3.  The competition was very close for 2nd place in Group 3.  A 3-way tie had to be broken by USATT rules to decide the winner.  The winner, 10-year old Matthew Nolan, was decided by counting points won divided by points lost.  Way to go, Matthew!
